TTC unveils mobile version of website, trip planner

The Toronto Transit Commission today announced that its website and Internet Trip Planner are both now available as mobile applications for smartphones and mobiles devices. As well, its trip planner, unveiled as a beta version earlier this year, has now gone into full production after receiving some 3,400 suggestions and recommendations from customers and users.

The mobile web application is a slimmed-down version of ttc.ca, allowing users to use the Internet Trip Planner, view schedules, fare information, and other relevant TTC customer information, such as service alerts.

The mobile version of the trip planner will allow users to determine the best route to their destination in a form designed specifically for mobile devices. The mobile trip planner offers both a “quick” or “full” version of the trip planner. It will also display a map of the users’ origin or destination.

Users can access the mobile site through their mobile device at:

  • m.ttc.ca
  • mobile.ttc.ca
  • mymobile.ttc.ca

The full Internet Trip Planner, found at ttc.ca, now offers three travel options, as well as walking times. It also incorporates stop numbers into the trip. Stop numbers can be found at ttc.ca, as well as on the mobile application, for all streetcar stops. Bus stop numbers will be added in early 2011.

In October, at ttc.ca, customers will be able to filter the types of e-alerts they receive by selecting subway lines, and bus and streetcar routes specific to their needs, or continue to receive all alerts. And later this year, the option of receiving advisories by SMS text messaging, or to continue receiving alerts via email, will be available.

The TTC will also announce this fall details about its work with the City of Toronto on Open Data, allowing third parties, like Google Transit, to build applications using TTC data that will be available, at no cost, to the public.
