TTC receives ‘Notice to Proceed’ for the Finch West LRT project

The Toronto Transit Commission has received the Minister of the Environment's ‘Notice to Proceed’ for the Finch West LRT. The joint TTC/City of Toronto Environmental Project Report was undertaken for the 17-km-long project, which will provide service from the existing Finch Station to Humber College making connections with the Spadina Subway extension at Finch West Station and the planned Jane LRT.

The Finch West LRT will bring rapid and reliable transit to the Finch West corridor, which will enable residents to choose public transit over the use of a private automobile. The expansion of rapid transit supports local economic development and improves the social inclusion of a city by moving more people to more places by transit.  This project is a component of the Transit City Light Rail Plan, which is an initiative to build 120 km of light rail through eight LRT transit projects in Toronto. The objective of Transit City is to provide excellent and environmentally friendly transit service, which will increase transit capacity, reduces auto-dependency and create a more liveable, attractive and sustainable city.
