TTC Wins APTA Bus Safety Award

The Toronto Transit Commission has been named the 2009 GOLD award winner at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Bus Safety Awards in Seattle, Washington. The award recognizes the TTC’s commitment to improving safety for its customers and employees through the Work Safe - Home Safe initiative.

The goal of Work Safe – Home Safe is to reduce lost time injuries by 60 percent over the next three years. A reduction of 25 per cent has already been achieved by encouraging employee engagement and improving leadership skills.

APTA is a nonprofit international association of nearly 1,500 member organizations including public transportation systems; planning, design, construction and finance firms; product and service providers; and state associations and departments of transportation. APTA members serve the public interest by providing safe, efficient and economical public transportation services and products. APTA members serve more than 90 percent of persons using public transportation in the United States and Canada.
