Early closure of TTC subway line

In order to undertake necessary subway tunnel repairs, the TTC will be closing the Yonge Subway north of Eglinton Station approximately 90 minutes earlier each night, starting at 12:30 a.m., from Sunday through Friday. This temporary change begins on Sunday, February 15, and will continue until late in 2010. Normal subway service will continue to operate on Saturday nights.

A frequent replacement service using accessible buses will be operated between Eglinton Station and Finch Station. The buses will serve the bus platforms at Eglinton Station, Lawrence Station, York Mills Station, Sheppard-Yonge Station, and Finch Station.  (North York Centre Station will close at 12:30 a.m.) Customers who use mobility devices, or who want to avoid stairs and escalators, should use the elevators at the south end of Eglinton Station to transfer between the subway and the buses.

Finch, Sheppard-Yonge, York Mills, and Lawrence stations will remain open for bus service. Eglinton Station will remain open for bus service and southbound train service. Trains on the Sheppard Subway will continue to operate.

This is the second phase of a continuing rehabilitation project to repair tunnel walls that are nearly 40 years old. Since June 2008, in order to permit repair work between Lawrence and Sheppard-Yonge stations, late night trains have been operating as far north as Lawrence Station only. That work is now progressing south to Eglinton Station.
