Learn More about the Proposed Scarborough RT Extension and Transit City Sheppard Line at TTC and City of Toronto Open House

A Public Open House will be held on Tuesday, April 15th, at which time the public will have an opportunity to learn more about, and offer comments or suggestions about two major proposed TTC projects:

- The Class Environmental Assessment Study into the proposed replacement of bus service on Sheppard Avenue East with modern electrically-powered light rail vehicles operating on dedicated transit lanes. The Sheppard East LRT would run from Don Mills Station to Morningside Avenue, and possibly as far east as Meadowvale Road. The Sheppard East LRT is a key part of the Transit City initiative, and this open house represents the start of planning for the Transit City project.

- The proposed extension of the Scarborough RT from the current eastern end at McCowan Station to the Markham Road, Sheppard Avenue East and Malvern Town Centre areas.

- Transit City calls for 120 km of service to be added over the entire city. By 2021, the new lines would carry 175 million riders per year. The estimated cost including vehicles and maintenance facilities is $8 billion. For more information about Transit City, visit the TTC website at www.ttc.ca.

The City of Toronto and the TTC are looking at ways to significantly improve transit service in Scarborough and would like to hear from the public. The Open House is designed to explain the proposals, to show the public what will be achieved, to receive comments and to answer any questions.
