Western Yard Train Storage and Maintenance Facility

Background

In 2018, the Consolidated Rail Amalgamation Study was competed and identified the need for a new Line 2 maintenance and storage facility to accommodate future subway growth and expansion.

Shortages on Line 2 associated with vehicle acceptance, commissioning, storage and maintenance is central to the future need for the new Western Yard.

What we’re doing

The TTC is in the process of securing the remaining portion of land for the Western Yard site.

A Site Access Feasibility Study is being finalized, including review of subway vehicle site access options in co-ordination with various public utility agencies and third-party interests.

Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental investigations are ongoing.

Next Steps

A Needs Assessment Report, taking into consideration the vehicle procurement plan, Line 1 and Line 2 dependencies as well as existing Line 2 facility capability will be developed for a future submission.
