What are we doing and why?

The TTC is planning for capacity improvements across Line 2 through the Capacity Enhancement Program.

As part of this program, the Lansdowne Electrical Substation Upgrades project will increase the substation's capacity to support the subway traction power system, reducing journey times and improving service reliability.

Scope of work:

  • Modification and upgrades to existing substation building.
  • Modification and upgrades to transformer yard.
  • One-storey rear addition to existing building to accommodate required facility upgrades.
  • Construction of 330-meter underground duct bank connecting substation to Lansdowne Subway Station.
  • Modifications to existing breaker room inside Lansdowne Subway Station.

What to expect during construction:

  • The majority of work activities will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.
  • As permitted, some overnight and weekend work may be required in order to complete the work as quickly as possible.
  • Construction trucks, equipment, and workers will be present in the general area.
  • Noise, dust and vibration associated with construction are unavoidable with this work. Appropriate monitoring will be established to maintain levels within acceptable limits.
  • Temporary lane reductions will affect traffic on Lansdowne Avenue. A paid duty officer and flag personnel will be present to direct traffic.
  • Pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicle access will be maintained. There will be no impacts to TTC service.
  • TTC Community Liaisons will provide construction updates and responses to questions.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit in Toronto.
