Track Renewal and Overhead Upgrades

College Street and Bay Street

College Street and Bay Street Track Renewal and Overhead Upgrades

What we are doing and why

Construction began in early March and work at the intersection of College and Bay has been completed ahead of schedule. The intersection reopened to traffic on Friday, March 27.

While streetcar service remains diverted, TTC crews are continuing to carry out other work in nearby areas. Activities may include inspections, overhead upgrades, rail and concrete repairs, testing and commissioning, and other enabling work to support safe and reliable service.

For full construction and traffic details, visit toronto.ca/CollegeCarlton.

TTC Service impacts (effective May 3, 2026)

As of Sunday, May 3, 506/306 Carlton streetcars has resumed regular service across the College/Bay intersection during the day. Some overhead work will continue overnight, requiring nightly diversions after 11 p.m. via Dundas Street between McCaul Street and Parliament Street. Regular 506/306 Carlton streetcar service is expected to resume during FIFA World Cup 2026™.

19 Bay bus service has resumed through the corridor.

Full service details will be available at: https://www.ttc.ca/service-advisories.

Please note that additional diversions will be required when work resumes on College/Carlton for Phases 2 and 3 FIFA World Cup 2026. TTC will communicate these changes at a later date.

Overhead Upgrades

Throughout this project, TTC crews are actively upgrading and commissioning streetcar overhead infrastructure in the area while streetcars are diverted. Work may take place both during day and night shifts and will involve TTC overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment. While efforts will be made by the crew to keep noise to a minimum, beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up will be audible. Equipment lights may also be noticeable.
