Seasonal Maintenance roles keep Toronto moving. These positions go beyond keeping our facilities safe, clean, and welcoming—they’re often the first step toward a long and rewarding TTC career. Many of our team members began in seasonal roles before moving into permanent opportunities across the organization. 

About the Program

Each year, the TTC welcomes dedicated individuals with experience in labour, cleaning, or landscaping to join our Seasonal Maintenance Program. Working from March through November, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stations, tracks, and facilities meet the highest standards of safety and cleanliness for our customers and employees.

These temporary, unionized roles are hands-on and impactful—providing valuable TTC experience and the chance to launch a career that helps move Toronto forward.

Featured roles in the Seasonal Maintenance program:

  • Heavy Duty Cleaner - Building Serviceperson
    Heavy Duty Cleaner -Building Serviceperson performs a variety of specialized janitorial services of a heavy duty nature using power cleaning equipment. They may also do restorative work, ordering inventory, setting up/operating work platforms and lifts.
  • Janitor
    The Janitor role consists of routine and varied janitorial work throughout the subway system and other TTC building facilities. The duties include sweeping, washing, vacuuming and scrubbing all floors, cleaning and polishing tile walls, picking up litter, etc.
  • Labourer-Buildings
    Labourer-Buildings role is similar to a Construction Worker. It involves assisting with the repair of building facilities, installations of structural components, mixing and prepping materials for use, cleaning up the work site after the job is completed and operation of power tools.
  • Landscaper – Grounds Maintainer
    Landscaper – Grounds Maintainer performs routine landscaping and grounds maintenance activities to ensure the basic maintenance of various subway and surface properties including open cut track areas throughout the TTC. They will use a variety of handheld and gas powered landscaping equipment and tools to maintain TTC grounds involves lawn care, pruning, raking and cutting grass, pruning and preparing seasonal displays, etc. They may also assist with the set-up of work zones, barricades, etc.
