Seasonal Maintenance roles keep Toronto moving. These positions go beyond keeping our facilities safe, clean, and welcoming—they’re often the first step toward a long and rewarding TTC career. Many of our team members began in seasonal roles before moving into permanent opportunities across the organization.
About the Program
Each year, TTC recruits individuals with labour, cleaning or landscaping experience for the Seasonal Maintenance program. Successful candidates are hired temporarily from March - November to perform essential tasks to help with TTC operations.
These positions are in a unionized environment and shifts may vary. Some positions may involve working indoors or outdoors at various TTC locations. Job qualifications may require driving licenses, relevant skillsets and/or work experience.
Featured roles in the Seasonal Maintenance program:
- Heavy Duty Cleaner
The Heavy Duty Cleaner performs a variety of specialized janitorial services of a heavy duty nature using power cleaning equipment. They may also do restorative work, ordering inventory, setting up/operating work platforms and lifts. - Janitor, Plant
The Janitor, Plant role consists of routine and varied janitorial work throughout the subway system and other TTC building facilities. The duties include sweeping, washing, vacuuming and scrubbing all floors, cleaning and polishing tile walls, picking up litter, etc. - End Terminal Cleaner/Carhouse Helper
The End Terminal Cleaner/Carhouse Helper maintains the cleanliness and condition of TTC vehicles and assigned facilities by washing and cleaning vehicle interiors and exteriors using mops, scrubbers, spray applicators, and other cleaning equipment. They will also disinfect vehicles, collect litter and remove graffiti and stains. - Labourer-Buildings
Labourer-Buildings role is similar to a Construction Worker. It involves assisting with the repair of building facilities, installations of structural components, mixing and prepping materials for use, cleaning up the work site after the job is completed and operation of power tools. - Landscaper
The Landscaper performs routine landscaping and grounds maintenance activities to ensure the basic maintenance of various subway and surface properties including open cut track areas throughout the TTC. They will use a variety of handheld and gas powered landscaping equipment and tools to maintain TTC grounds involves lawn care, pruning, raking and cutting grass, pruning and preparing seasonal displays, etc. They may also assist with the set-up of work zones, barricades, etc.
