TTC modifies this weekend’s Line 1 closure plans

In order to minimize the impact on customers and accommodate emergency repairs, the TTC is modifying plans for this weekend’s subway track work on Line 1 between Wilson and Lawrence West stations.

Instead of the scheduled closure, the TTC will operate a subway shuttle train between Wilson and Lawrence West stations. The subway shuttle train will operate on the northbound track, while repair work is carried out on the southbound track. This innovative temporary measure will ensure that train service is preserved to all stations, and the use of shuttle buses is avoided.

While more convenient, trips through the area may still take up to 30 minutes longer than normal.

If travelling to or between Wilson, Yorkdale and Lawrence West stations, customers will need to do the following:

If travelling southbound:

- disembark from the southbound subway train at Wilson Station
- cross to the other platform to board the subway shuttle train between Wilson and Lawrence West stations. This shuttle train will also stop at Yorkdale.
- at Lawrence West Station, cross to the other platform and board a southbound train to continue their journey

If travelling northbound:

- disembark from the northbound subway train at Lawrence West Station
- cross to the other platform to board the subway shuttle train between Lawrence West and Wilson stations. This shuttle train will also stop at Yorkdale.
- at Wilson Station, cross to the other platform and board a northbound train to continue their journey

Customers travelling elsewhere on the University side of Line 1 may also experience longer than normal travel and wait times. The TTC recognizes this is inconvenient and encourages customers to plan ahead and leave extra time.

Those customers who would prefer to avoid the affected area should consider using the Yonge side of Line 1, which can be easily reached on buses from Pioneer Village Station (60 Steeles West), Finch West Station (36 Finch West/939 Finch Express), Sheppard West Station (84 Sheppard West/984 Sheppard West Express), Wilson Station (96 Wilson/165 Weston Rd North) or Lawrence West Station (52 Lawrence West). Finch Station has a large car parking area for those who drive to the subway. Customers wishing to connect to Line 2 can also use the 7 Bathurst, while those travelling to Yorkdale Mall can take the 29 Dufferin, 47 Lansdowne or 109 Ranee. The UP Express is also available between Bloor GO Station and Union Station on a TTC fare.

Additional TTC staff will be on hand at Wilson, Yorkdale and Lawrence West stations to assist customers. All three stations will remain open for people to load their PRESTO card, purchase PRESTO Tickets, or connect to surface routes.

Customers who require Wheel-Trans service can speak with any TTC customer service staff member for assistance.

This work is needed to replace a deteriorated section of track that currently has trains traveling through the area at significantly reduced speeds.

Line 2

As a reminder, this weekend, the portion of Line 2 between Jane and Ossington stations will also be closed for important track work. Like on Line 1, trains currently travelling through this area are doing so at restricted speeds.

Shuttle buses will run, stopping at each station along the route.

TTC staff will be on hand to direct customers to shuttle boarding and offloading locations, which will vary from station to station. All stations will remain open for people to load their PRESTO card, purchase PRESTO Tickets, or connect to surface routes; however, the following exits/entrances will be closed:

At High Park Station, the automatic entrances/exits at Parkview Gardens will be closed. At Keele Station, the Indian Grove automatic entrance/exit will be closed. At Lansdowne Station, the automatic entrance/exit at Emerson Ave. will be closed. At Dufferin Station, the automatic entrance/exit at Russett Ave. will also be closed. Other entrances and exits will be available for customers at each subway station.

While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work as well as ATC signal upgrades.

Weekend events and service impacts

Several events taking place in the city this weekend will result in adjustments to TTC service.

The 505 Dundas will be diverting from June 3-6, to accommodate Do West Fest. Minor delays and service interruptions are also anticipated on the 29 Dufferin, 47 Lansdowne and 63 Ossington in that area as a result of road closures for the event.

On Sat., June 4, customers using the 25 Don Mills, 81 Thorncliffe Park and 925 Don Mills Express may experience minor delays and service interruptions due to Music on Pape.

On Sat., June 4, and Sun., June 5, Summer is Magic may cause minor delays and service interruptions to the 26 Dupont, 35 Jane, 55 Warren Park, and 935 Jane Express between 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

On Sun., June 5, the 29 Dufferin and 329 Dufferin will be diverting between 2:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to accommodate the Bike for Brain Health. Customers should also expect delays on the 91 Woodbine and 95 York Mills during this time.

Customers are encouraged to leave themselves extra time when commuting this weekend and visit ttc.ca for help planning their trips.

The TTC is committed to keeping customers informed about work and events that impact service and about alternate routes. For the most up-to-date information, follow @TTCNotices on Twitter or sign up for eAlerts.
