Terms and Conditions for TTC identification cards


Employee ID cards

  • Employee ID cards are issued to TTC employees and paid TTC co-op students.  The individual assigned the card is referred to as the “card holder”.
  • Employee ID cards are valid for:  identification purposes, admission to TTC properties and transportation privileges.
  • This card remains the property of the TTC and it may be discontinued, revoked or returned upon request, at any time, by the TTC. 
  • The card is non-transferable and is for the sole use of the individual  to whom it was issued. Any other person found using the card may be subject to criminal/TTC By-law prosecution. A card holder found misusing the card, or allowing for the misuse of the card, in any way may be subject to disciplinary action.
  • If the card holder leaves the employment of the TTC they are required to turn in their card immediately to their TTC Supervisor, Human Resources Department or Investigative Services Department. 
  • Employees must be in possession of their Employee ID card at all times while on duty. In designated areas and/or work locations employees may be required to display and/or wear their employee ID card at all times.
  • The card is valid during the term as set out in the Card Acceptance Form. 
  • Upon expiration of the card, the card holder is required to return the expired card in exchange for a new card. If the expired card is not returned, the card holder is subject to $25.00 non-refundable fee.
  • Lost/Stolen - Loss of a card must be reported immediately to a TTC Supervisor. A $25.00 (non-refundable) replacement fee will be charged for the issuance of a new card. If the card has money loaded on it, the employee is subject to a 4% administration fee as found at www.prestocard.ca. Any refund will be sent directly to the employee from PRESTO.
  • Employees who are unable to produce their Employee ID card when required, or refuses to produce their card when required for access to a TTC property, may be denied entry to that property until their identity can be confirmed.
  • Use of the card is subject to all applicable laws, these terms and conditions, and TTC policies, which laws, terms and conditions, and policies may be amended from time to time.
  • The TTC will pay a reward of $25.00 for the return of a lost Employee ID card. Anyone who is issued an Employee, Pensioner, Contractor, or Designated ID card is not eligible for this reward. 
  • Employees who fail to comply with these terms and conditions may be subject to discipline.
  • TTC expressly reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions for cards, at its sole discretion, without prior written notice.

Pensioner ID card

  • Pensioner ID cards are issued to TTC Pensioners and former Commissioners (Board members).  Eligibility requirements are outlined in TTC Corporate Policy #4.18.0. The individual assigned the card is referred to as the “card holder”.
  • Pensioner ID cards are valid for:  identification purposes, admission to TTC properties and transportation privileges.
  • This card remains the property of the TTC and it may be discontinued, revoked, or returned upon request, at any time, by TTC.
  • The card is non-transferable and is for the sole use of the individual to whom it was issued.. Any other person found using the pass may be subject to criminal/TTC By-law prosecution. A card holder found misusing the card, or allowing for the misuse of the card, in any way may be subject, at the TTC’s sole discretion, to cancellation of the card or privileges associated with the card, including free transit on the TTC system.
  • The card holder has the option to load funds onto their card which will then allow the card to be used to pay for travel on any other transportation system that utilizes Presto as a payment option. The card holder is required to follow the procedures outlined for loading funds onto non-registered cards as found at www.prestocard.ca.   If a card holder needs to replace or surrender their card for any reason, any outstanding funds at the time of replacement or surrendering are subject to a 4% PRESTO administration fee.  Any refund will be sent directly to the employee from PRESTO.
  • The card holder must be in possession of their Pensioner ID card at all times while on TTC property and produce their card as proof of identity when requested. In designated areas the card holder may be required to display and/or wear their card at all times
  • The card is valid during the term as set out in the Card Acceptance Form. 
  • Lost/Stolen - Loss of a card must be reported to TTC Human Resources Department. A $25.00 (non-refundable) replacement fee will be charged for the issuance of a new card. If the card has money loaded, the individual is subject to a 4% administration fee as found at www.prestocard.ca.  Any refund will be sent directly to the card holder from PRESTO.
  • Use of the card is subject to all applicable laws, these terms and conditions, and TTC policies, which laws, terms and conditions, and policies may be amended from time to time.
  • A card holder that is unable to produce their Pensioner ID Card when required, or refuses to produce their card when required for access to a TTC property, may be denied entry to that property until their identity can be confirmed.
  • The TTC will pay a reward of $25.00 for the return of a lost Pensioner ID card. Anyone who is issued an Employee, Pensioner, Contractor, or Designated ID card is not eligible for this reward. 
  • TTC expressly reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions for cards, at its sole discretion, without prior written notice.  

Contractor ID card

  • Contractor ID cards are issued, at the sole discretion of the TTC, to Contractors and unpaid co-op Students who perform services directly for the TTC.  The individual assigned the card is referred to as the “card holder”.
  • Contractor ID cards are valid for:  identification purposes, admission to TTC properties and transportation privileges.
  • This card remains the property of the TTC and may be discontinued, revoked, or returned upon request, at any time, by TTC.
  • The card is non-transferable and is for the sole use of the individual to whom it was issued. Any other person found using the card may be subject to criminal/TTC By-law prosecution. A card holder found misusing the card, or allowing for the misuse of the card, in any way may be subject to disciplinary action.

  • Contractors/Co-op students must be in possession of their Contractor ID card at all times while on duty and produce their card as proof of identity when requested. In designated areas and/or work locations they may be required to display and/or wear their card at all times.
  • The card is valid during the term as set out in the Card Acceptance Form. 
  • Upon expiration of the term of the card, any person with a Contractor ID Card is required to return their card. If the card is not returned they are subject to $25.00 non-refundable fee.
  • Lost/Stolen - Loss of a card must be reported immediately to a TTC Human Resources Department. A $25.00 (non-refundable) replacement fee will be charged for the issuance of a new card.
  • Use of the card is subject to all applicable laws and TTC policies, which policies may be amended from time to time.
  • The card holder that is unable to produce their Contractor ID card when required, or refuses to produce their card when required for access to a TTC property, may be denied entry to that property until their identity can be confirmed.
  • The TTC will pay a reward of $25.00 for the return of a Contractor ID card. Anyone who is issued an Employee, Pensioner, Contractor, or Designated ID card is not eligible for this reward. 
  • Contractors/Co-op students who fail to comply with these terms and conditions may be subject to discipline.
  • The card must be properly displayed when used and shall be surrendered to any TTC employee upon request for inspection.
  • TTC expressly reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions for cards, at its sole discretion, without prior written notice.  

Designated ID card

  • Designated ID cards are issued to designated individuals that do not work directly for the TTC but are to entitled free transportation privileges for various purposes. The individual assigned the card is referred to as the “card holder”.
  • Designated Groups include (but are not limited to) the following:  ACAT, Toronto City Councillors, TTC Commissioners and CNIB (Mobility Instructors and Registered Users).
  • Registered CNIB Users must use the Designated ID card in conjunction with their CNIB National Identification Card.
  • Designated ID cards for City Councillors and Commissioners are a taxable benefit as stipulated on the Card Acceptance Form.
  • Designated ID cards are valid for:  identification purposes, admission to TTC properties and transportation privileges.  Anyone with this card must register with appropriate TTC personnel when attending TTC properties.
  • This card remains the property of the TTC and may be discontinued, revoked, or returned upon request, at any time, by TTC.
  • The card is non-transferable and is for the sole use of the card holder to whom it was issued. Any other person found using the card may be subject to criminal/ TTC By-law prosecution.  A card holder found misusing the card, or allowing for the misuse of the card, in any way may be subject to disciplinary action.
  • If the card holder is no longer a member of a designated group, TTC Investigative Services Department must be notified immediately and the card must be returned to the TTC. 
  • Loading funds or money on the Designated ID card is strictly prohibited.
  • Any person with a Designated ID card must be in possession of their Designated ID card at all times while on TTC property as proof of identity when requested. In designated areas and/or work locations they may be required to display and/or wear their card at all times.
  • The card is valid during the term as set out in the Card Acceptance Form. 
  • Upon expiration of the term of the card, any person with a Designated ID card is required  to return their expired card in exchange for a new card. If card is not returned they are subject to $25.00 non-refundable fee.
  • Use of the card is subject to all applicable laws, these terms and conditions, and TTC policies, which laws, terms and conditions, and policies may be amended from time to time.

  • Any individual with a Designated ID card who is unable to produce their card when required or refuse to produce their card when required for access to a TTC property will be denied entry to that property until their identity can be confirmed.
  • The TTC will pay a reward of $25.00 for the return of a lost card. Anyone issued an Employee, Pensioner, Contractor, or Designated card are not eligible for this reward. 
  • Any person with a Designated ID card who fails to comply with these terms and conditions may have their card confiscated and/or privileges revoked.
  • The card must be properly displayed when used and shall be surrendered to any TTC employee upon request for inspection.
  • TTC expressly reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions for cards, at its sole discretion, without prior written notice.
