Underground utility chamber rebuild at Church and Adelaide

Effective May 6, 2024

What are we doing and why?

The TTC will be rebuilding an existing underground utility chamber on the west side of Church Street, just south of Adelaide Street East. The chamber is part of a network across the city that provides access to electrical and communication cabling for the TTC and other utility companies.

What to expect

Beginning as early as Monday, May 6, 2024, at 7 a.m., work crews will begin setting up a safe work zone with temporary traffic signage/controls Crews will excavate the west curb lane on Church Street to expose the utility chamber. Crews will then rebuild the concrete chamber and restore the road. To facilitate work activity, some equipment and materials will remain on the worksite overnight.

Work hours

Work will mostly take place Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Crews may be required work on Saturdays from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. as needed.

Travel impacts

  • Traffic will be maintained in each direction on Church Street for the duration of the project.
  • The southbound curb lane on Church Street, south of Adelaide Street East will be reduced through the work zone for safety.
  • Parking restrictions may be required on Church Street, north and south of the work zone.
  • The sidewalk next to the work zone will remain accessible.

TTC service

TTC service on Church Street will not be impacted by this work.
