St Clair West Station - fire ventilation upgrade project

Early investigation and overnight noise assessment
Effective February 2024

What we are doing and why:

The TTC is planning for capacity improvements at some of Line 1’s busiest subway stations. For more information on this program, please visit our website. Fire ventilation systems across the TTC will be improved as part of the program which will allow for increased system capacity.

Overnight noise assessment will take place at 396 St. Clair West (Loblaws) and St Clair West Station as part of early investigations to support the future fire ventilation upgrades. The work involves using speakers intermittently through the night to mimic simulated fan sounds. Data will be recorded to assess potential noise levels which will determine future mitigation measures.

Timing and Duration:

  • Work will be conducted in February and March over a course of approximately three nights (weather dependent)
  • Work is expected to take place between 10pm – 7am to capture levels with minimum background noise.

What to expect:

  • Some noise can be expected for temporary periods.
  • There will be no interruptions to transit service as part of this investigative work.
  • No traffic or sidewalk closures are required for this work.

How you can be involved:

Community members living in the area are encouraged to share feedback if noise levels are perceived at their residences. This information will help inform future interventions necessary. If you would like to reach out to us, please use the contact information listed below.
