St Clair West Station - Fire Ventilation Upgrade Project

Early investigation - Overnight coring test
Effective April 5, 2024 to April 13, 2024

What we are doing and why:

The TTC is planning for capacity improvements at some of Line 1’s busiest subway stations. For more information on this program, please visit our website. Fire ventilation systems across the TTC will be improved as part of the program which will allow for increased system capacity.

As part of early investigation of this project, work to confirm depth and size of three utilities below concourse level floor of St Clair West Station is scheduled to take place on April 5, April 6, April 12 and April 13. Equipment required to complete the work includes a hydro-vacuuming truck with remote suction hoses, a portable electric concrete coring machine, a portable generator and other tools to complete coring and hydro-vacuuming. While the coring machine will be operated at the concourse level of the station, the hydro-vacuuming truck will be stationed in the curb lane of eastbound St. Clair Avenue West near the street level entrance to St. Clair West Station.

Timing and Duration:

  • Work will be conducted on April 5, April 6, April 12 and April 13* overnight (weather dependent).
  • Work is expected to take place between 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. when bus service is reduced and when the station is closed (non-revenue hours).

What to expect:

  • Some noise related to coring and hydro-vacuuming can be expected for temporary periods.
  • There will be no interruptions to transit service as part of this investigative work.
  • For safety, the side walk at St Clair entrance of the St Clair West Station will be detoured as the hose will run across the side walk during this work.
  • The curb lane in front of the St Clair entrance of the St Clair West Station will be occupied for the hydro-vacuuming truck parking. No lane closures are required.
