King Street East and Queen Street East - essential maintenance
What we are doing and why
When planned watermain work starts on Queen Street East between Broadview and Davies avenues, TTC will divert local service. In particular:
- 501 Queen streetcars will divert both ways via Parliament Street, Dundas Street and Broadview Avenue. There will be no streetcar service on Queen Street East between Parliament Street and Broadview Avenue.
- 504 King streetcars will only operate as far east as Distillery Loop. There will be no streetcar service on King Street East, east of Sumach Street.
For up-to-date information on the watermain project and related TTC service, visit ttc.ca/QueenEast.
When these service changes take place, the TTC will take the opportunity to conduct maintenance where streetcars are not operating.
Overhead infrastructure upgrades
From mid-November until the end of 2025, Overhead crews will work at the following locations:
- King Street East and Queen Street East intersection (west of the DVP Bridge)
- King Street East from Sumach Street to Queen Street East
Streetcar track maintenance
TTC crews plan to conduct streetcar-related repairs at the following locations:
- Queen Street East from River to Parliament – localized concrete repairs (work will take approximately one week)
- King Street East from Sumach Street to Queen Street East - nightly rail grinding maintenance from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Work activities, hours and locations
- To complete work safely and efficiently, TTC crews will work throughout the day and night as required.
- Overhead crews will deploy a moving lane work zone across King Street East and may require some flexibility. Given the right conditions, which include curb lane availability and access to overhead poles, they may move and work in different locations throughout the same day and week.
- Track crews will work in short sections across Queen Street East to conduct concrete repairs.
Equipment
- TTC overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment will be used to carry out the overhead work.
- Machinery will be used to complete localized concrete repairs.
- A slow-moving rail grinding vehicle will be used to conduct nightly rail grinding maintenance along the streetcar lanes.
While efforts will be made by the crew to keep noise to a minimum, beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up will be audible. Equipment lights may also be noticeable.
Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian impacts
- Traffic will be maintained through the work areas.
- Sidewalks will not be impacted.
- Parking may be temporarily restricted in local areas where crews are working.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve transit infrastructure in Toronto.
