Dupont Station - transformer upgrade and replacement
Work scheduled for September 28/29, October 26/27 and November 30/December 1
What we are doing and why
Under the State of Good Repair Program, contactors on behalf of TTC will replace the transformers (that provide power) at Casa Loma Substation, located at 278 Dupont Street, adjacent to the northwest entrance to Dupont Subway Station.
The first of the three transformers will be replaced on September 28/29, 2019 starting at approximately 7:00 a.m. The installation will take approximately eight hours. A crane will be used to perform this replacement, and a flat-deck truck carrying the transformer and other essential equipment will be onsite. Toronto Police Services personnel will be onsite to provide traffic control.
The second transformer is tentatively planned for replacement on October 26/27, 2019, and the third transformer on November 30/December 1, 2019.
To do this work safety, the crane and the flat-deck truck will require a clear path and access to the front of the substation. The crane will be set-up inside the substation transformer yard. Also, the delivery truck will be parked inside the yard as well. The following pedestrian and auto traffic safety restrictions needs to be put in place:
- The north door of Dupont Station north-west entrance needs to be closed (access to the station will be maintained).
- A section of Spadina Street west sidewalk extension between the northwest subway entrance and transformer yard will be closed.
- The bus stop located on the northwest corner of Spadina/Dupont intersection (for Route 127 – Davenport) will be temporarily moved from the north side to the south side of Dupont Street.
- Traffic lane reductions on Spadina are expected when the trucks and equipment are present.
