TTC fares posted at point of purchase are final

Buses or streetcars - You need a ticket, token, pass, transfer, PRESTO card or exact cash. Operators do not sell fares or carry change.

Subway - There is a collector booth located at every station, except Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Highway 407, Pioneer Village, York University, Finch West, Downsview Park, Sheppard West and Wilson, where you pay your fare, purchase tickets, tokens and passes (Downtown Express and GTA Weekly Pass). Fare agents accept cash, debit or credit cards.

Customer Service Agents are available at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Highway 407, Pioneer Village, York University, Finch West, Downsview Park, Sheppard West and Wilson to answer your questions and show you how and where to purchase your fares.

Proof of age

Proof of age or photo ID must be shown when paying your fare:

  • Post-Secondary Students must show a Post-Secondary Photo ID along with a Post-Secondary Monthly Pass;
  • Students between 13 and 15 years of age, no identification is required;
  • Students between 16 and 19 years old, need to carry appropriate identification such as High School photo ID or Government issued photo ID e.g. Drivers Licence or Ontario Photo Card;
  • Seniors, 65 years of age or over, may show a TTC Senior Photo ID, a Driver's Licence or an Ontario Photo Card;
  • Children, 12 and under, may be required to show a TTC Proof of Age card.

The TTC Photo ID Facility is located at Sherbourne subway station.

Where to buy your fare

You can buy tickets, tokens, or select passes at Subway Station Collector Booths. You can also purchase fares at any of our fare seller locations. Monthly Passes are only available on PRESTO.

Gateway Newstands in TTC subway stations sell pre-loaded PRESTO cards. The cards cost $20, which includes the $6 fee.

PRESTO cards can also be purchased online at prestocard.ca or from select Shoppers Drug Mart locations.

To set a senior or student fare type on your card you must visit a select Shoppers Drug Mart location that sells PRESTO or go to the TTC’s Customer Service Centre at Davisville Station, 1900 Yonge Street.

PRESTO Fare Vending Machines

PRESTO Fare Vending Machines are located at all subway stations.

These machines dispense adult PRESTO cards. You can load money to your PRESTO card, load an adult, youth or senior TTC Monthly Pass or Post-Secondary Monthly Pass and check your balance at this machine. Youths, post-secondary students and seniors must have a youth, post-secondary student or senior fare type set on their PRESTO card before they can purchase a monthly pass from the Fare Vending Machine. You can do this at Shoppers Drug Mart locations in the city. You must bring valid government issued ID or your TTC Post-Secondary Photo identification to set your fare type.at this machine.

Self-Serve Reload Machines

Self-Serve Reload Machines are available at TTC subway stations. You can use these machines to load money onto your PRESTO card or check your balance.

When to buy your fare

Tickets, Tokens and the Day Pass can be purchased at any time.

Monthly passes (includes Adult, Post-Secondary and Senior/ Student Montly Pass, and the Downtown Express Monthly Sticker):

TTC Monthly Passes on PRESTO can be purchased at Fare Vending Machines at subways stations, from Shoppers Drug Mart locations, online at prestocard.ca, and from the TTC’s Customer Service Centre at Davisville Station. You can purchase TTC Monthly Passes from the Fare Vending Machine at all subway stations. The 12-Month Pass is only available online at prestocard.ca

Weekly passes (includes Adult and Senior/Youth Weekly Pass, and the GTA Weekly Pass): on sale from the previous Thursday, until the Tuesday of the week for which the pass will be used.
