Crimes against employees are taken very seriously. If an employee is assaulted or victimized on the job, the TTC’s Court Advocates will help you to understand your rights and role within the judicial system. Court Advocates provide support, act as a resource to employees who are victims of violent crime and answer any questions that you may have concerning the court process. If you don’t have an answer to your questions, they will get the answers for you.
Court Advocate Q&A
Q) I’ve been assaulted and/or threatened with bodily harm and/or death. What happens now?
A) Transit Control/CIS contacts Emergency Services to attend your location to assist you.
Q) Will I have to attend court?
A) Yes, you may be required to attend court. Many cases, however, are resolved prior to trial.
Q) Can someone attend court with me?
A) Court Advocates attend court with all employee victims.
Q) How do I contact the police officer in charge of my case?
A) The Court Advocates will assist you in maintaining contact with the officer in charge of your matter.
Q) The accused fled the scene. What happens now?
A) Police and/or Transit Special Constables will attend, start their investigation and download security video as required.
Q) What should I do if I see the accused again?
A) Do not interact with the suspect. Contact Transit Control/CIS to request Police Officer and Special Constable attendance if the assault/threatening suspect is on board and wait for instructions.
If you have been victimized, please obtain the following information, if possible, so the Court Advocates can better assist you:
> Date and time of incident.
> Accused’s name if possible.
> Name of attending Route/Station Supervisor.
> Police and/or Special Constable’s badge number.
> Location of incident.
> Injuries sustained.
> Your name.
> Your cellphone number.
> Your home phone number.
> Your division or work location.
