EC&E staff leading appeal for donations to Typhoon Haiyan victims in Philippines11/16/13 5:41 AM
Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines on Nov. 8, 2013 has left thousands of people dead, millions displaced and has caused severe destruction across the country. The death toll continues to rise.
Various aid agencies are working to deliver food, medical care, tents and water to the devastated communities and are calling worldwide for immediate aid to survivors.
Employees from the EC&E Group have approached the Filipino community in Toronto with an offer of assistance. The TTC is asking all employees and pensioners to please consider making a donation to help the children and families devastated by the typhoon. Your support, monetary or otherwise, is needed to help with shelter, food, drinking water, hygiene and sanitation.
Anyone who would like to assist can do so by contacting these aid agencies below:
> Philippine National Red Cross, http://www.redcross.org.ph/donate.php.
> GMA Kapuso Foundation, a socio-civic organization organized by GMA Network Inc. to facilitate social programs and outreach to the public. It is regarded as the most accomplished, trusted, and credible non-government organization in the Philippines, http://www.gmanetwork.com/kapusofoundation/donation.
> World Vision, http://www.worldvision.ca/GIVE-A-GIFT/Pages/Philippines-Disaster-Relief.aspx.
Employees and pensioners who would like to help with non-perishable goods, clothing or other charitable donations, can give to the following church for shipment to the Philippines:
> Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 2565 Bathurst St., Toronto ON, M6B 2Z3 (north of Eglinton Avenue West).
If employees or pensioners would prefer to send any donation through EC&C, the following employees would be glad to pick up the donation:
