Fitness for Duty Update

Opioid Drug Testing Panel

Effective June 4, 2018, the TTC will be updating its drug testing panel for opioids to be in line with recent changes made by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The term ‘opiates’ will be renamed to opioids, and both the urine and oral fluid opioids drug panel will be expanded to include Oxymorphone, Hydrocodone and Hydromorphone.

The TTC will continue to test for Oxycodone in both its oral fluid and urine testing, but this test is now part of the standard opioid panel and will be reported in the opioid category, not as a separate test.

In addition, the TTC will be adding Fentanyl testing to the urine drug screening. This testing will also begin on June 4, 2018. Oral fluid lab-based testing is not yet available for Fentanyl, but the lab is actively working on developing testing for this substance. The TTC intends to add Fentanyl to the opioid panel once lab-based testing is available. As a reminder, urine testing is only done under certain circumstances and is never a part of the random testing program. Further communications will be issued once more information is available.
