April 28 is National Day of Mourning
Safety is the foundation of our culture and our calling at the TTC. Our most important job is to ensure the safety and security of our customers, employees and everyone around us.
Tomorrow, Saturday, April 28, is National Day of Mourning. This is a day when we should all take a moment, at work or at home, to remember our friends and co-workers who were killed, injured or suffered a workplace tragedy.
On April 23, flags across the property, and throughout the city, were lowered in the wake of that terrible event that unfolded on Yonge Street, not far from many of our own satellite offices. Flags will stay lowered through Saturday in honour and memory of those in our workforce who have died or suffered serious illness or injury.
This has been a very difficult week for the city. And it will be tough for a while as we continue to learn the names of all those victims killed on Yonge Street.
If you need to speak with someone, our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides confidential counselling services and can link you and your family member to dedicated professionals, such as counsellors, psychologists or social workers.
You and your family members can get support by phone, in person or online. Please don’t hesitate to call our EFAP provider, Mourneau-Shepell, anytime, 24/7, at 1-800-572-0039. It’s always confidential – absolutely no one at the TTC is advised of anyone’s request for assistance. It’s there if you need it.
