Supporting employees during difficult times,
Health and Wellness supports for those affected by the attack in London, Ontario
Like many of you, I am shocked and horrified by the recent attack in London, Ontario, where the driver of a pickup truck ran down a family of five, killing four of them. The sole survivor is a nine-year-old boy who is in hospital recovering from serious injuries. It has become very clear that the family of five were targeted because they were Muslim Canadians.
For many of us, it is hard to imagine how a family weekend stroll can end in such tragedy. For some, seeing these events in the news may trigger pain and an overwhelming emotional response, including fear. I want to underscore that there is absolutely zero tolerance for any act of violence motivated by Islamophobia, racism or discrimination.
At the TTC, it is important that all our employees feel safe and supported. As an organization, we stand with groups experiencing hate and discrimination. Should you experience any such incidents in the workplace, and I encourage you to reach out to the Human Rights and Investigations Department at HumanRightsInquiriesandInfo@ttc.ca.
Tragedies like these can impact us in different ways. Please know that the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) along with other supports are available to you and your family. Earlier this year, we launched a campaign to remind employees of some of the health and wellness supports that are available should you need them. Please find below a list of some resources that provide advice and tips on how to cope with traumatic or triggering events.
