Jaye Robinson named as new Chair of the TTC12/18/18 6:33 PM
Toronto City Council appointed Jaye Robinson, Councillor for Ward 15 Don Valley West, as the TTC’s new Chair at its meeting on Dec. 13. Councillor Robinson replaces outgoing TTC Chair Josh Colle, who was Councillor of the former Ward 15 Eglinton-Lawrence.
Robinson will chair her first meeting on Jan. 10, 2019. The election of a Vice-Chair, required at the start of a new term, will take place at the same meeting.
Robinson will lead a 10-member Board into its new four-year term joined by: Councillor/Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong (Ward 16 Don Valley East); and Councillors Shelley Carroll (Ward 17 Don Valley North), Brad Bradford (Ward 19 Beaches-East York), Jim Karygiannis (Ward 22 Scarborough-Agincourt) and Jennifer McKelvie (Ward 25 Scarborough-Rouge Park).
The six elected representatives will be joining the three current citizen Commissioners: Alan Heisey Q.C., Ron Lalonde and Joanne De Laurentiis. The fourth citizen Commissioner required to fill a current vacancy on the Board will be announced in the new year.
With the size of City Council changed to 25 members, the TTC Board’s composition was revised to 10 members from 11 (six Councillors and four citizens).
Councillors are appointed to the TTC Board by City Council on recommendation of the City of Toronto Striking Committee. Citizen members are appointed to the
TTC Board by City Council through the City’s Public Appointments process. The TTC Chair is appointed by a vote of City Council. The TTC Vice-Chair is a citizen member appointed by a vote of the TTC Board.
