A sad announcement

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you all this afternoon. Yesterday, we learned that our friend and colleague, Walter Alexander, passed away from COVID-19 on Wednesday (May 12).

Walter has been with the TTC for 21 years; most recently he was a Subway Track Worker at McCowan Yard. Walter’s passing is being felt throughout the entire organization – he was a wonderful person who will be missed by all who knew him.

I know this news will come as a shock to many and it may be hard to process. Please remember we have health and wellness supports available should you need them. The immediate and confidential Employee Family and Assistance Program (EFAP) is available at any time of the day, any day of the week. To get in touch with EFAP, please call 1-800-572-0039 or TTY at 1-877-338-0275. You can also access these supports on the MyEAP App or online at workhealthlife.com.

The safety of all our employees and customers is of utmost importance to me. This tragedy is a stark reminder that this virus can strike anyone at any time – please remember to follow all safety protocol and advice from public health officials both in and out of the workplace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Walter’s family. Flags on TTC property will be lowered to half-staff today in Walter’s honour.

Stay safe.
