COVID Alert app to be installed on all TTC-managed mobile phones November 2

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the province and city, the TTC is putting another protective measure in place to stop the spread of this virus. On Monday, November 2, 2020 at 3 p.m., the COVID Alert app will be installed on all TTC-managed mobile phones. The installation of the app is meant to provide an easy and convenient way for staff to use the app – the more people who use it, the more effective we will be at stopping the spread of COVID-19.

TTC staff are encouraged to join the more than 4.5 million Canadians who are already using the COVID Alert app. The benefit of using the app is that it helps break the cycle of infection by letting people know of possible exposures before any symptoms appear. Especially as people continue to move about within the community and engage in various activities.

This app does not collect, share, or identify location or personal information on behalf of the TTC. The app uses secure Bluetooth technology, which allows phones to exchange random codes when they are within two metres of each other for at least 15 minutes. If an app user tests positive for COVID-19, they put a code into the app that will anonymously alert other app users who were in close contact with them during the past two weeks. The app has been reviewed by Federal and Ontario privacy commissioners. If you receive a notification from the app, self-isolate and get tested.

While the app will be installed on TTC-managed mobile phones, its use is voluntary. If you do not activate the app, then it will not work. However, all staff are encouraged to use the app, whether on their work phone or personal device, to take care of ourselves and protect our communities. You can find more information in the FAQs and How-To-Guide.

Thank you for helping stop the spread of COVID-19. Stay safe.
