International Women’s Day

Yesterday (March 8) marked International Women’s Day around the world, and as you know the day is devoted to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in the workplace.

For us at the TTC it’s an opportunity to acknowledge the great contributions and perspectives that women in our workforce bring to all aspects of the service we provide. This was on display at the third annual International Women’s Day celebration that was recently held in the Plant Maintenance Department at Hillcrest.

Women play an important role in making the TTC one of the most vital public service organizations in the GTA. I’m proud to say that most of the leaders on the TTC Executive Team are now women, women represent half of our Board and, through our hiring practices, we will continue to attract and retain more women in our skilled and semi-skilled trades.

Ultimately, public transit is a people business that takes many talented and hard-working individuals driving the system forward on the front lines, in our meeting rooms and behind the scenes.

Thanks for all you do.
