COVID-19 update
This morning (March 30) the TTC was notified that an employee in bus maintenance at the old Davenport Building has tested positive for COVID-19. He is the fourth TTC employee to test positive for the virus.
The employee was last at work on March 13, 2020 and began showing symptoms later that evening after work. The employee is currently recovering at home with improving residual symptoms. Everyone at the TTC wishes him a full and speedy recovery.
Once advised of this diagnosis, the TTC immediately engaged Toronto Public Health to determine next steps. TPH and TTC conducted a joint investigation and determined in the days prior to leaving work he had only casual contact with a small number of colleagues, but that there is no increased risk of exposure to them.
As there is now community spread of COVID-19 in Toronto, Toronto Public Health is asking all individuals who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 to self-isolate at home for 14 days from when the symptoms begin, and to call Telehealth Ontario, their local public health department or their health care provider, and the TTC occupational health and safety.
The TTC considers the health and well-being of its employees its top priority and continues to work with Toronto Public Health, our occupational health unit, Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees, and union locals to ensure employees are given the information and the support they need moving forward.
On a normal day, what you do is vital to keep our essential service running. During these extraordinary times you have and continue to do extraordinary work to maintain service and safety for all our customers.
Thank you for all that you do to keep Toronto moving.
