Back to school backpack drive

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying a safe summer. It’s hard to believe we are just three weeks away from schools reopening and many kids heading back to class.

I am writing to you all today about a back-to-school initiative that I am proud to be a part of. The Toronto and Region Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is having a back to school backpack drive. COMTO is collecting backpacks and school supplies for kids from kindergarten to Grade 12. COMTO would like to fill 150 backpacks with new school supplies for kids in the Jane/Emmett area.

I am here to challenge us to do more. The TTC is an organization of 16,000 and I know we are an organization made up of generous people with big hearts. It has been a tough couple of months for everyone. I can’t think of anyone who has not been impacted by COVID-19. Let’s make sure that these kids can go back to school with a backpack full of school supplies and can begin getting back to their normal lives.

I am attaching a flyer with information on where you can make donations of either supplies or some money. You can also send e-transfers to O’Dave Griffiths (ODave.Griffiths@ttc.ca) in the Finance Department. Be sure to check TTC-TV for updates on how we are doing.

I continue to be encouraged by the work of COMTO in our organization and this initiative is just one example of why I think grassroots initiatives like COMTO are the kind of things we need to support.

I look forward to seeing all the backpacks and school supplies that the TTC will collect.
