TTC helps deliver conference success
Public transit is clearly a passionate subject on the minds of people right across Canada. That’s evident in the headlines we read every day, and it was evident at this week’s conference of the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA).
I want to start by thanking CUTA for bringing its annual conference and transit show to Toronto this year. It was a wonderful success and a timely opportunity for transit professionals to share their expertise, boast about their successes and discuss the challenges facing systems around the country.
Events like this help to ensure that public transit is always a primary consideration with our municipal, provincial and federal partners.
Together with our co-hosts from Metrolinx, we did an outstanding job welcoming hundreds of delegates representing systems both big and small, from as far as Vancouver to Whitehorse to St. John’s.
I want to commend our excellent Special Events/Customer Communications team who, under the leadership of Deb Brown and Angela Haynes, worked tirelessly planning and delivering this conference – Nelly, Kristina, Michelle, Sandy, Stephen and Zee. When they are called upon, they deliver magnificent results with limited resources. It is apparent how much pride and unflagging dedication is required to help pull off an event of this scale.
I would also like to thank staff who took the time to speak at various sessions throughout the week, and those who lead and participated in TTC tours across the property and around the city. Congratulations on a stellar job sharing your hospitality and your insights into the size and complexity of our operation. It was a great team effort.
Our hard work has garnered us many positive responses. So now with the CUTA conference behind us, we are already looking ahead and planning for our next big task – that of hosting the 2019 APTA Rail Conference and Rodeo next June (on that note, abstracts are due Wednesday, November 28). Everyone who was in Toronto this week has already been invited back for more great things from the TTC!
