First Toronto Rocket subway cars arrived in 2010.

January 20: Commissioners endorsed a letter from TTC Chair Adam Giambrone and CGM Gary Webster that called for a review of customer service at TTC, and for the creation of an independent panel to help improve the riding experience.

February 2: TTC released the beta version of its long-anticipated Internet Trip Planner at ttc.ca.

February 17: Steve O’Brien, General Manager of One King West Hotel & Residence, was introduced as the voluntary Chair of the Customer Service Advisory Panel. Panel members were named on March 2.

March 22: 25th anniversary of the official opening of the Scarborough RT.

April 29: TTC expanded the Next Vehicle Arrival System by adding LCD monitors and LED screens at Broadview Station.

May 10: TTC launched a consultation program inviting the public to participate in the design of TTC’s future low-floor, light rail vehicles.May 18: CUTA presented TTC a Corporate Recognition Award in Ottawa for the Work Safe-Home Safe initiative.

June 2: Commissioners approved a $54-million contract for the purchase of four tunnel boring machines to dig twin tunnels for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

June 9: Toronto City Council approved the site plan for a new carhouse at Leslie and Lake Shore (Ashbridges Bay site) that will store TTC’s future light rail vehicles for its legacy network.

June 13: TTC Roadeo winners: Arrow Road’s Edward Mernagh; Wheel-Trans’ Stephen Brumpton; Malvern Garage’s Peter Kirwin, Thomas Tzirtziganis and Mike Lynch; and Duncan Shop’s Dave Kirby.

June 14: Metrolinx announced the purchase of 182 LRVs from Bombardier Transportation for the Sheppard East, Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West Transit City lines.

June 18: Eglinton Operator Terrence James was named Transit Community Watcher of the Year (2009).

June 18: 100th anniversary of the Toronto ferry boat, Trillium, which was once part of the TTC’s historic ferry service up until 1960.

June 30: Full streetcar service resumed on the 512 St Clair route, marking the end of the right-of-way project.

July 8: TTC launched SMS test messaging (via cellular phone) for streetcar arrivals at more than 600 streetcar stops.

August 23: The Customer Service Advisory Panel released its final report on customer service at TTC. It made more than 70 observations and recommendations on how TTC can re-establish its focus on customer service.

August 23: Commissioners approved a contract option for 88 more Friendly buses for Wheel-Trans.

August 23: TTC introduced its new, transferable Post-Secondary Student Metropass, which went on sale for $99.

September 13: TTC introduced its first group of Station Managers responsible for day-to-day functioning and operations of designated subway station zones, and for providing overall customer service.

September 23: Transit City opened its Sheppard East LRT Community Office on Glen Waterford Drive in Scarborough.

October 1: TTC’s first Toronto Rocket subway car was delivered to Wilson Yard from its starting point in Thunder Bay.

October 12: TTC and Google announced bus, streetcar and subway schedules to the Google Transit trip planner.

October 14: TTC’s first Toronto Rocket subway train was officially unveiled to the public and media at Downsview Station.

October 21: TTC unveiled its first Subway Information Screen at Dundas West Station.

October 21: Toronto Police Services Board voted to end TTC Special Constable status in 2011.

October 27: TTC recorded its highest one-day ridership total with 1.677 million customers carried.

November 17: CUTA presented posthumous award to the late CIO John Cannon for leading the IT Services Department in implementing new customer information initiatives.

November 29: Toronto Mayor-elect Rob Ford tapped Ward 16 Eglinton-Lawrence Councillor Karen Stintz for his choice as the new Chair of the TTC.

December 8: New Commission sworn in at Toronto City Hall.

December 15: First meeting of the new Commission at Toronto City Hall.

December 31/January 1: The TTC closes the year by providing free, midnight service to its customers.
