On Saturday May 27, the TTC opened its doors to close to 5,000 visitors for a sneak peek of two of its newest subway stations, as part of the 18th annual Doors Open Toronto. The two stations – Downsview Park and York University – are part of the six station, 8.6 km Line 1 subway extension – also known as the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) - into York Region, opening later this year.

Visitors had access to the stations, took self-guided tours, discovered unique facts about how the stations and tunnels were built and how they will operate, took selfies, spoke with project staff, CEO Andy Byford and artist Panya Clark Espinal. Visitors also got to enjoy explainer videos on the public art piece Piston Effect (Jason Bruges Studio) and EllisDon’s construction of York University Station.  A mini-theatre was also set-up at both stations to watch a video of the entire project’s construction and evolution.
