Update: Northbound Lane Restrictions on Allen Road North of Sheppard Avenue West to North of De Boers Drive for Subway Tunnel Construction

The middle lane and the dedicated transit lane on northbound Allen Road north of Sheppard Avenue West will be closed for extraction shaft construction beginning at 9:30 a.m. daily. The middle lane will be blocked for two weeks from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The transit only lane will reopen in Spring 2012. This construction site located on the northeast corner of Sheppard Avenue West at the south end of the earth berm and extends approximately 464 metres adjacent to Allen Road. Construction crews will be building a large shaft for the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) “Holey and Moley”. The southern 200 metres of the Transit lane is anticipated to reopen in the spring.
Construction work for this month includes:
- Drilling and excavation for extraction shaft construction;
- Tie-in construction work for the new subway extension from Downsview Subway Station.
Work Hours
The City of Toronto has approved a noise by-law exemption which allows the contractor to perform overnight and weekend work when required to minimize traffic and neighbourhood disruptions.
- The middle lane on Allen Road will be blocked, Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Work will normally run between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
- No work will be done on Statutory Holidays.
Lane Restrictions on Allen Road
The northbound middle lane on Allen Road will be closed daily from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for approximately two weeks. The northbound dedicated Transit lane on Allen Road north of Sheppard Avenue West will be closed until this spring. The lanes are closed from north of Sheppard Avenue West to north of De Boers Drive (approximately 464 metres). Due to the nature of the work, motorists may face temporary traffic delays northbound on Allen Road.
TTC Bus Routes
Transit delays may be experienced on these TTC bus routes; 104 Faywood, 105 Dufferin North, 117 Alness and the 196 York University Rocket from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. daily. We regret any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this work.
Construction Vehicle Access
Construction vehicles will access and exit the construction site only from Allen Road.
