Steeles West Subway Station Construction
February 7, 2012
Site preparations have begun for the construction of Steeles West Subway Station, which diagonally straddles Steeles Avenue West at Northwest Gate, on York University’s Keele campus.
Subway construction work will include:
- Site preparation
- Utility relocations
- Installation of construction fencing on either side of Steeles Avenue West
- Deep excavation
Lane Restrictions & Construction Vehicle Access:
Traffic restrictions on Steeles Avenue West will continue and be modified to suit subway construction activities over the next three years. While driving through this construction zone, please use extra care and reduced speeds. Traffic movement will be reduced to ensure public safety and to allow for construction vehicles to access the sites on both north and south side of Steeles Avenue West.
Work Hours:
- Work hours will normally run between 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Friday. (No work may be done on Statutory Holidays).
- During the work, there may be construction related noise.
The City of Toronto and City of Vaughan have approved a noise by-law amendment which allows the project contractors to perform overnight work and weekend work to minimize traffic disruptions and keep the project on schedule.
Pedestrians:
There will be no pedestrian access from Northwest Gate to Steeles Avenue West due to the construction site. Pedestrians are required to use designated crosswalks at Founders Road to cross Steeles Avenue West. All bus stops located at Northwest Gate have been relocated to Founders Road.
As construction continues at the Steeles West Station Site, construction related notices will be issued.
