Subway Construction during the Holidays December 24th, to January 2nd, 2013

December 21, 2012

Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension construction will be modified at all the construction sites between Christmas and the New Year. All construction sites will observe the statutory holidays of December 25th, 26th and January 1st and will not be working. There will be reduced work on December 24th and December 31st.

Construction will be limited in some locations to minor construction activities from December 24th, 2012 to January 2nd, 2013. Tunnelling by the southern tunnel boring machine, “Moley”, will continue from Whitehorse Road and Kodiak Crescent to the extraction shaft east of Dufferin Street and north of Sheppard Avenue West. The northern tunnel boring machines “Yorkie” and “Torkie” recently completed the first drive and are being dismantled and delivered to the launch shaft at Highway 407 Station Site where they will tunnel south to the Steeles West Station site.

Active Construction on December 24, 27, 28 and 31:

Minimal construction work will continue at sites along Keele Street north of Toro Road to The Pond Road. The northbound closure of Keele Street approaching Finch Avenue West will continue until Spring 2013.

Beginning nightly on Thursday, December 27th and Friday, December 28th, Steeles Avenue West will be restricted to one lane westbound from Founders Road to Northwest Gate for work associated with excavation. Work will commence at 7:00 p.m. each night and the second westbound lane will reopen at 5:00 a.m. the next morning.

Construction activities will continue at the Sheppard West, Finch West, York University, Steeles West, Highway 407 and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre station sites.
