Closure of Northwest Gate and Temporary Parking Lot Construction

Northwest Gate will be closed from Ian Macdonald Blvd to Steeles Avenue West starting Monday, January 31, 2011 for the construction of a new temporary parking lot and subway construction.

This new temporary parking lot, to be constructed down the centre of Northwest Gate, will provide a temporary replacement of the current Northwest Gate pay-&-display parking lot during the upcoming tunnelling and Steeles West Station construction. Approximately 140 pay-&-display parking spots will be provided. Vehicle access to this new temporary parking lot will be available only from Ian Macdonald Blvd.

Construction of this parking lot is expected to be complete by March 2011(Expected completion date is subject to change due to weather and/or unforeseen events). During this construction, the current Northwest Gate pay-&-display parking will remain open but will be accessible only from Steeles West Avenue. Once the new temporary lot is made available, Northwest Gate at Steeles Avenue West will be completely closed for long term construction.

Work Hours

• Work will normally run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Traffic Impacts and Pedestrian Safety

Traffic control personnel will be on campus to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrian, transit and vehicular traffic around the construction work areas.

The sidewalk on Northwest Gate will remain open at all times to maintain pedestrian access during construction.
