The Queensway track project - rail relocation to Sunnyside Avenue
August 13 to 18 - 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. nightly
Work description and purpose
The new rail presently stored on The Queensway west of Windermere Avenue will be relocated to the east limits of the project near Sunnyside Avenue. Relocating the new rail allows for work to proceed within the streetcar right-of-way west of Colborne Lodge Drive starting with the installation of new overhead pole bases.
Due to the potential safety risk resulting from traffic volume and pedestrian movement through the intersections, the long rail strings will be moved overnight between approximately 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Toronto Police will be on-site to assist with traffic.
The rail pile will remain stored on the track allowance on The Queensway near Sunnyside Avenue and will be depleted as track reconstruction progresses.
During the overnight periods when the rail strings are being moved from the storage area to the installation area, traffic and transit buses in the eastbound lane on The Queensway may be temporarily delayed during each pull of the rail strings.
To maintain safety, the rail relocation will take place continuously between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. nightly.
