When Boarding

  • When the streetcar approaches, wait and watch for traffic.
  • Wait for the streetcar to stop and open its doors, then look left.
  • When traffic has stopped, step into the street and walk directly to the streetcar.

When Exiting

  • Look right and ensure traffic has stopped.
  • When traffic has stopped, step down onto street and walk directly to sidewalk.

  • Each month a rider is hit by a vehicle passing the open doors of a streetcar.
  • Each day, TTC drivers witness over a 100 incidents where vehicles failed to stop behind the open doors of a streetcar.
  • Failing to stop behind the open doors of a streetcar is a violation of the highway traffic act. Motorist can be fined $109.00
  • Customers who enter the roadway before the streetcar has stopped and opened its doors can be fined $28.00
