Streetcar network upgrades at St Clair West Station
September 27, 2018
Starting late tomorrow night, Fri., Sept. 28, TTC crews are working to update overhead electrical wiring to support pantograph operation for low floor streetcars at St Clair West Station. As a result, the 512 St Clair streetcar route will bypass St Clair West Station both ways for the month of October. During that time, customers can board and disembark at Tweedsmuir Ave. and St. Clair Ave., W. or at Bathurst St. and St. Clair Ave. W.
This weekend only, the 512 St Clair streetcar will be replaced with buses servicing stops outside the subway station on St. Clair Ave. W. The 512 St Clair replacement buses will service curbside stops only, not the right-of-way.
The 33 Forest Hill, 90 Vaughan and 126 Christie will also board and disembark outside the station throughout the weekend.
Pantograph is hardware mounted on the roofs of streetcars that collect power through contact with overhead lines. All TTC streetcars routes are gradually upgrading from the current trolley pole system to more reliable pantograph operation.
On Monday morning, Oct. 1, buses will return to servicing stops inside St Clair West Station.
