January Board Period Service Changes

1/2/21 6:00 PM

Starting on Sunday, January 3, the TTC will be making the following service adjustments:

Highlights

In the January 2021 Board Period, the TTC will be restoring pre-pandemic service levels on most routes. Some routes will continue to operate at a reduced level due to observed and projected ridership. This will allow for continued allocation of flexible-supplemental service to adjust to changing conditions and travel demands. Subway service will continue to operate at reduced levels as ridership is not expected to recover until later in 2021.

Most express service will be restored, with the exception of: 903 Kennedy-Scarborough Centre Express, 924 Victoria Park Express, 944 Kipling South Express and 989 Weston Express. Weekend service on 925 Don Mills Express, 939 Finch Express and 985 Sheppard East Express will also be restored at a later date.

Service will also continue to be suspended on services serving downtown Toronto commuting patterns, including the 140-series Downtown Express routes, 176 Mimico GO and 508 Lake Shore.

Ridership and travel patterns will be monitored in early 2021 to guide service changes in the spring as the city continues its reopening and recovery.

Routes with service adjustments to address changing travel demand
The following services will have service adjustments, compared to pre-pandemic service, to respond to observed changes in travel demand:
7 Bathurst – articulated bus operation
35 Jane – additional early morning trips
46 Martin Grove – adjustments to morning peak period service
73 Royal York – increased service
100 Flemingdon Park – increased service
941 Keele Express – increased service

Scheduled tripper service on local routes, which began operation in late summer 2020, will no longer operate as the restoration of express service on most corridors will restore capacity to pre-pandemic levels.

The service on 24 Victoria Park and 89 Weston will have regular schedules restored, which eliminates the additional local trippers, but their express service counterparts are not being restored. These services will be supplemented by flexible-supplemental service when required.

Services continuing at a reduced service levels
The following services will operate with reduced service, compared to pre-pandemic levels, due to low observed or projected ridership. This includes routes with a high proportion of office workers and routes serving post-secondary institutions where the majority of students are not attending in-person classes. Ridership will continue to be monitored on all routes and adjustments will continue through 2021:
