As you are all aware, we at the TTC have a great deal of work ahead of us to regain ridership, recover lost revenues, and to rebuild customer confidence around system safety. Most importantly we must continue our focus on the future knowing there will be increased financial pressure on the TTC due to the enormous fiscal constraints facing all orders of government.
My continued priority will be to advocate for new funding models and opportunities for the TTC through our intergovernmental relations strategy with the City. We need to ensure we deliver on our major capital projects and State of Good Repair programs; both of which are key to growth and the economic recovery of Toronto.
To that end, I have made a few adjustments to the organization to help manage these competing demands. Kirsten Watson, my Deputy CEO, will continue her focus on the operations of the TTC, but will now have particular attention working with the Chief Financial Officer on financial management and oversight, including capital and operating budget development, spending, and outcomes throughout the organization.
In support of this, Dwayne Geddes, Head of Wheel-Trans, will report to Jim Ross, Chief Operating Officer. This completes Jim’s portfolio with all modes of Transportation now reporting to him.
With the TTC’s continued and urgent focus on Fare Policy and Customer Service, Michelle Jones, Head of Revenue Protection, will now report to Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas, Chief Strategy and Customer Officer. Further to this change, I would also like to announce that Andrew Dixon is the new Head of Special Constables Service (Acting), and will be reporting to Kathleen as well. We thank Jay Lawrence for the work that he has done in this role and welcome him back into his previous role of Manager, Training and Logistical Support.
Further, Dhaksayan Shanmuganayagam, Head of Information Technology Services; Mike Piemontese, Head of Procurement and Category Management; and Rob Rush, Head of Materials Management, will now report to our Interim Chief Financial Officer, Josie La Vita. This is inline with the traditional Corporate Services model that focuses on corporate, financial, commercial and business management objectives.
COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the organization, and at the virtual Board meeting on June 17, Commissioners unanimously approved the TTC’s COVID-19 – Transitioning from Response to Restart and Recovery Report. As an organization we need to be focused, measured and prudent going forward to ensure that the TTC continues to be a leader in the transit industry.
Thank you for all you do.
