Andy Byford joins TTC as Chief Operating Officer
Byford arrives from Sydney, Australia in November
The TTC is pleased to announce the appointment of Andy Byford to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer of the Operations Branch. Byford will join the TTC in early November.
Byford comes to the TTC from Sydney, Australia where he has held the position of Chief Operating Officer for Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) since 2009.
Byford has also held several positions with rail operators in the United Kingdom, including the London Underground where he was a General Manager.
Byford’s appointment follows a lengthy international search conducted by the TTC to replace General Manager of Operations Rick Cornacchia, who retired in March.
In addition to overseeing the Operations Branch, he will work as Deputy Chief General Manager and be responsible for customer service in his new role.
“We are very pleased that Andy will be joining us here in Toronto,” said Chief General Manager Gary Webster. “His breadth of international experience in both Sydney and the U.K. will allow us to continue to make gains in safety, customer service and the quality of service we provide to our customers on a daily basis.”
“As we prepare for a challenging year with both our Operating and Capital Budgets, Andy will be a valuable asset in assisting us in meeting our budget targets and expectations for improved service.”
Byford’s appointment as the TTC’s first Chief Operating Officer was announced on Sept. 7.
