Art approved for Union platform
Commissioners approved an artwork proposal for the Union Station New Platform Project. The artwork will reside between two panes of glass that will run the length of the new platform (about 500 feet).
The concept proposed by architectural glass artist Stuart M. Reid is called Zones of Immersion. The artist describes his work with glass and architecture as challenging preconceived notions while maintaining a deep respect for historical tradition.
“This work is an immersive subway journal composed of collected thought,” he says.
The search for an artist began in 2007 in conjunction with the City of Toronto’s Art Committee for Public Spaces.
Construction on the new platform at Union is schedule to begin by fall 2009.
